Seiryu Japanese Maple

Acer palmatum ‘Seiryu’

A superior tree. It can be expected to perform very well in Keizer.

Description

Seiryu Japanese Maple is well known for its unique feature of being a lace-leaf cultivar with an upright growth habit.

Characteristics

This deciduous garden tree grows to 10’-15’ in height and 8’ in width. It takes on a vase-shaped appearance, with multiple trunks. In the nursery trade is just about the only lace-leaf cultivar that does not have the more typical weeping/mounding habit. It will quickly grow to its full height thus providing visual accent for years of enjoyment.

Seiryu’s spring foliage is a beautiful bright green color. As the leaves un-fold there is a notable splash of red on the tips of the leaves. As the summer progresses the leaves take on a uniform green color. In late summer reddish tones come back followed by golds and light yellows. It is very popular in Europe where it won an Award of Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.
